FEATURE PRESENTATIONS

CRESSBROOK DAM SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (CDSIP) – THE DELIVERY

Jon Andison, Principal Program Delivery Civil Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project Delivery at Toowoomba Regional Council, provides an insight on the delivery of the Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project (CDSIP), a $266.1 million State-legislated project to improve dam safety for downstream communities during major flood events. This is the first and largest dam safety project upgrade to be self-funded by Local Government.

TRC are applying a risk-based approach to design the safety improvements to As Low As Reasonably Practicable and meet the requirements set out under the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008. This risk-based design is the recommended approach as it will deliver a more considered project at better value than a standards-based design.

This risk-based design approach is the key difference between most other projects and this dam safety improvement project. It includes the quantification of risk for each dam failure mode and the “As low as reasonably practical” justification (or departure from a standards base).

The presentation will provide a high-level understanding about the application of ALARP to CDSIP.
