Weena is a Lecturer in civil engineering at University of Southern Queensland, Springfield campus. She received her PhD in structural engineering from Monash University in Melbourne back in 2004. She is currently involved in a research project with Bush fire and Natural Hazard Cooperate Research Center to work on enhancing the resilience of critical road infrastructure: bridges, culverts and flood ways under natural hazards. During a workshop for the CRC project, a need for the timber bridge maintenance was highlighted by the road authorities and a council. It is this need that motivated her to find a solution to this important issue. Currently she has some ongoing projects at the university and she plans to present her findings and insights on technology assisted timber bridge maintenance regime.
