Smart Technology for Flood Disaster Response

ABSTRACT

Between the 30th March and 2nd April 2017 Logan City experienced its worst flood since 1974. This presentation will highlight some of the smart technology implemented over the last few years which helped the City manage the flood event and keep the community informed. It will look at technology and infrastructure, what worked well and what further improvements are planned.

Biography

Silvio is a civil engineer with qualifications in business and company directorship. Before joining Logan City Council, he spent 23 years in local government in Western Australia, the final 10 as the Executive Engineering and Technical Services/Deputy CEO at the City of Canning. Silvio joined Logan City Council in 2008 after boundary reform responsible for roads, parks and waste. In 2012, after the disbandment of Allconnex and a minor corporate realignment the Road and Water Infrastructure Stream was created. Silvio’s Stream is responsible for the planning, delivery and construction of roads and water infrastructure, and Council’s disaster management capabilities. He has a strong interest in providing and managing quality public infrastructure and services. He is also committed to ensuring sustainability of assets and services throughout Council, and leads the strategic asset management functions across the organisation. Silvio holds a Bachelor in Engineering, a Graduate Diploma in Business, and a Diploma of Company Directors. He is a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia.
