Board of Professional Engineers Queensland

ABSTRACT

Queensland is the only Australian state or territory to comprehensively regulate the profession of engineering. Engineers are regulated through the Professional Engineers Act 2002 (Qld) (PE Act). The PE Act serves to uphold the standard of engineering practice, protect the public and maintain public confidence in the profession by requiring professional engineering services in or for Queensland be provided by, or under the direct supervision of, a responsible registered professional engineer of Queensland (RPEQ). The PE Act restricts registration as a RPEQ to persons who can demonstrate they are qualified and competent, reducing the risk of unsatisfactory or dangerous engineering services. There are currently 12,000 engineers from Queensland, interstate and overseas registered in 15 general areas of engineering, which are supplemented by 10 specialist areas of engineering.
