Digital Transformation

ABSTRACT

Digital disruption is dramatically changing the organisational landscape at an ever accelerating pace. Companies that are able to capitalise on disruptive technologies and digital transformation are extracting value, while others are still chasing their tail. In a connected world, companies who don’t adopt new technologies will fall behind and those who have already adopted new technologies effectively are deriving value, efficiency and cost saving giving them the competitive edge. It’s predicted if you do not digitise in the next 3 - 5 years, you will not be in business in 10 - 15 years.

Innovative companies like Queensland Urban Utilities, South Australian Power Network and Snowy Hydro have been undergoing this digital transformation with RedEye as partner. These large, asset intensive organisations often have hundreds of thousands of drawings related to managing their assets. RedEye helps them utilise this data effectively by storing and providing easy access to their engineering drawings/data. Making their data available, useable and valuable.

RedEye has taken many distinct storage sources of a company's engineering drawings and data to upload to the cloud. During the upload process algorithms have been specially designed to locate and delete duplicated drawings. Once the drawings have undergone deduplication they are now available to be managed via RedEyeDMS that has tools to effectively and efficiently analyze and clean the drawings/data to extract massive value.

On average RedEyeDMS sees a reduction of more than 50% of clients engineering drawings in the initial uploads, with one client reducing duplication by 70%. Some drawings have been copied up 127 times across their respective storage areas causing inefficiency which is why a single source of truth is so important. A client in 4 weeks with 1 FTE was able to do what would take 2 FTEs 6 months via the use of smart tools in RedEyeDMS.

In conclusion it is imperative that companies undergo digital transformation by adopting digital technologies. RedEye is helping to do this incredibly quickly together with future focused organisations by partnering to be on the cutting edge of what is possible.

Biography

Randall Makin is co-founder of RedEye, one of Australia’s fastest growing startups and the first software business to make engineering data truly mobile. A degree qualified electrical engineer, Randall’s domain expertise in construction and maintenance for large asset owners provided first-hand insight into the type of data solutions of engineers and people who use drawings and other engineering data. Since founding RedEye in 2012, he has overseen the creation and evolution of the company and maintains a passion to challenge and improve outcomes by using data insights. Randall is looking forward to the day RedEye meets it’s audacious target of 1 trillion engineering artefacts on the platform. As an active contributor to Australia’s startup community, Randall is passionate about helping companies take control of their data, get value to help shape how we use technology at work, and sharing his experience with other startups to boost Australia’s startup ecosystem.
