In recent times, IPWEAQ has been investigating issues that are a cause for concern across the civil infrastructure industry in Queensland. 

One of the topics that consistently appeared was the loss of practical knowledge and skills in working with non-standard materials for the construction and maintenance of the road network in regional and remote areas. 

Factors that have contributed to this situation include skilled practitioners being lost through retirement or relocation.

In response to this need, IPWEAQ will host a Northern Roads Symposium addressing the use of locally available materials in the construction, maintenance and operations of our road assets specifically related to northern climatic conditions. 

This event presents a unique opportunity to learn from leading industry experts about best practice in utilising non-standard materials and will also review learnings from various recent projects, the materials selected, how they were constructed and how they are performing.  

It also looks at strategies for maximising outcomes when funding is limited and will promote the technical expertise and experience available to support industry stakeholders.
