2019 President’s Breakfast Wrap Up

The annual President’s Breakfast is our opportunity to thank our valued Partners and sponsors for their ongoing support of IPWEAQ and our community. The Captain's Room was filled with lively conversation with over 90 delegates in attendance. Thank you all for making this our biggest Breakfast to date not including our colleagues who joined us via satellite...

This year, we launched our inaugural satellite breakfasts with delegates in other regions able to enjoy the presentations remotely. Thank you Goondiwindi Regional Council and City of Gold Coast for joining us! The feedback has been exceptional so we look forward to welcoming more regions to a satellite breakfast next year. Due to the extreme weather conditions in Townsville, our colleagues in the north were unable to participate however their plight was upper most in our thoughts.

Col Chandler, our MS Queensland Ambassador and first speaker of the morning delivered a fascinating presentation on the history of public works taking us back thousands of years. This is now available in our globally-recognised Knowledge Centre together with other presentations delivered at the Breakfast.

We have raised more than $20,886 for MS Queensland over the past 18 months and hope you will continue to support us as we contribute to the advancements for this disease which currently has no cure.

For the third year in a row, we were delighted to be joined by our reigning Engineer of the Year. Alton Twine, Director Transport & Infrastructure, City of Gold Coast delivered the Keynote featuring a day in the life of his team taking us from midnight maintenance on the Gold Coast through to traffic works the following night.

We were also joined by Chris Pipe-Martin, Water Product Quality Program Leader, Logan City Council and Project of the Year winner in 2018. Chris shared details of Logan's winning project which offered an innovative, cost-effective solution for Logan’s water supply issues.

This year we also launched our 2019 Excellence Awards. Now in its seventeenth year, the awards program places a spotlight on the projects and people who deliver exceptional outcomes for our communities. We’re very proud to be able to coordinate the awards program and to be promoting the achievements of our sector. Nominations are open until 5 July, with the winners announced at our 2019 Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, 23 October in Brisbane.

The 2019 President’s Breakfast was a great way to start the year looking back to the successes of last year while looking forward to what promises to be another exciting year ahead. Thank you for joining us!

Seren McKenzie
